the obligatory "what i've learned in my twenties" post.

the past few years have brought me to two conclusions: 1) your twenties suck; 2) your twenties are best years of your life. how this is simultaneously true, i have yet to discover - but it is. only four years into my twenties, here are a few things i've learned.

signs of an uppity negro.

can we take a minute for the uppity negroes? you know, the ones who brag that they haven’t eaten fast food in 2-3 years but can scarf down that pork burrito from chipotle in less time than it takes to order it? i don’t know about y’all, but i love a good uppity negro. he/she keeps me in check…makes me remember where i came from, if you will. to me, an uppity negro in the black community is the equivalent of a hipster in “mainstream america” (which is a whole other topic in itself, but i’ll save that for later): they’re too cool for everything, but always bored; got higher standards than cute folk, but always single.

have i painted the picture for you yet?

well, how do you spot an uppity negro? i’m so glad you asked!

occupy deez.

if you're anything like me (at which point you can stop here, because you already know where this is going), you cringe every time you hear something about "occupy wall street" nowadays.  while it was a beautiful thing to see americans actually get off their asses and unite behind a cause other than how we kill chickens before we eat them, the whole movement became…well, annoying.

we all have that one friend, pt. 2.

it's been a little over a year since i wrote the first "we all have that one friend…" post, and i can say with confidence that it's all still 100% true, and that i - as always - am right.

for example, we all have that one friend who…

would jesus listen to your iTunes?

hands in the air if you remember this exact moment during your childhood: you're in the car with your parent(s), and next's "too close" comes on the radio.  at the time, it was a hot song, so it was on the radio all the time (and we actually listened to the radio).  and all of a sudden…

YOU REALIZE WHAT THEY'RE SINGING ABOUT!

the diary of an unemployed college grad, pt. 3

*in my sophia petrillo voice*

picture it: washington, d.c., 2011…a young man ventures to the other side of north capitol street to ask the government for a little help.

little did he know, this simple task would turn into an experience he would never forget.

this is the diary of an unemployed college grad.

(i know it took a while for this one, but bare with me…the end is near!)
